Parallel Algorithms for Linear Models provides a complete and detailed account of the design, analysis and implementation of parallel algorithms for solving large-scale linear models. It investigates and presents efficient, numerically stable algorithms for computing the least-squares estimators and other quantities of interest on massively parallel systems. The monograph is in two parts. The first part consists of four chapters and deals with the computational aspects for solving linear models that have applicability in diverse areas. The remaining two chapters form the second part, which concentrates on numerical and computational methods for solving various problems associated with seemingly unrelated regression equations (SURE) and simultaneous equations models. The practical issues of the parallel algorithms and the theoretical aspects of the numerical methods will be of interest to a broad range of researchers working in the areas of numerical and computational methods in statistics and econometrics, parallel numerical algorithms, parallel computing and numerical linear algebra. The aim of this monograph is to promote research in the interface of econometrics, computational statistics, numerical linear algebra and parallelism.

Brady, your partner for life, is pleased to present a new solution for your EMT course.

This new solution focuses on two ideas: 1) a combination text/workbook enables students to instantly apply knowledge learnedâ€"throughout a chapter, not just at the end; 2) understanding the perspectives of all individuals on scene makes for better judgment and decisionmaking.

Inside, the worktext, you will find that the content is well organized, easy to read and based on current EMS research and practice. Additionally, integrated elements are found throughout each chapter to challenge and encourage students to test their understanding of concepts as they are presented.

Microevolution explains what cancer is, how it develops and how to eradicate it. Cancer occurs in multi-celled organisms when cells escape the body's controls and behave like their single-celled ancestors. Such changes, triggered by oxidative damage, result in faulty cell division. Animals and plants have developed ways to stop their cells reverting to primitive forms. Hence, anticancer substances are common throughout nature. Therapies based on these take advantage of metabolic differences between cancer cells and healthy cells, to destroy cancer while helping healthy cells. Clinical trials are needed to test such non-toxic therapies. Biological research suggests that cancer is a treatable condition. Although current data is not sufficient to indicate the degree of life extension achievable, many terminal patients might die of other causes, before the cancer kills them. Cancer patients deserve to be offered this opportunity.

Award-winning writer C. J. Box returns with a vengeance in this thrilling new novel featuring Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett.

ItÂ's elk season in the Rockies, but this year a different kind of hunter is stalking a different kind of prey. When the call comes in on the radio, Joe Pickett can hardly believe his ears: game wardens have found a hunter dead at a camp in the mountains—strung up, gutted, and flayed, as if he were the elk heÂ'd been pursuing. A spent cartridge and a poker chip lie next to his body.

Ripples of horror spread through the community, and with a possibly psychotic killer on the loose Governor Rulon is forced to end the hunting season early for the first time in state history. Are the murders the work of a deranged antihunting activist or of a lone psychopath with a personal vendetta?

As always, Joe Pickett is the governorÂ's go-to man, and heÂ's put on the case to track the murderous hunter, as more bodies and poker chips turn up.

Bold, fast-paced, and with a controversial hook—hunting versus antihunting activists—Blood Trail is proof that C. J. Box is an ever-rising talent.

From the author: Various methods have been proposed to conduct optimization via discrete-event simulation. Prevalent among these are gradient-based algorithms, and more recently, so-called retrospective approaches that deterministically optimize over simulated outcomes. In this paper we compare and contrast the performance of these two approaches for the optimization of a periodic review (s, S) inventory system. In practice, gradient-based methods often exhibit undesirably slow convergence, whereas the retrospective approach can be computationally burdensome. We propose a hybrid algorithm that combines aspects of both approaches to mitigate these shortcomings.
